The Regional Academy for Democracy holds its first seminar on “Security sector reform in the Western Balkans” 22/02/2013 The Regional Academy for Democracy (RAD), which comprises the seven Western Balkans Schools of Political Studies, will be launched in Subotica, Serbia on 23-26 February 2013 with its first seminar on “Security sector reform in the Western Balkans”.

 

The Regional Academy for Democracy (RAD) is an initiative of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence and six partner Schools from the Western Balkans, supported by the European Commission through the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).

Every year, the RAD will bring together 50 upcoming political leaders from the Western Balkans in its capacity building programme aiming to enhance regional cooperation in the fields of democracy, human rights, justice and institution building. This year the overall theme will be “Justice and security co-operation”.

The official opening ceremony will inlcude speeches by Mr Ivan Vejvoda, Dean of the RAD and Vice-President of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, Mr Stefano Sannino, European Commission Director General for Enlargement, Mr Modest Dulic, Mayor of Subotica and Ms Sonja Licht, President of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence. The opening ceremony will be followed by a keynote presentation from Mr Stefano Sannino untitled “EU Integration and the Western Balkans in 2013: Lessons, Prospects and Limits”.
