The new academic group is largely composed of people who are actively engaged in the election process, namely, young representatives of political parties, journalists, lawyers and those, who participate in elections in their capacities as voters.
The discussions confirmed that rising electoral culture remains one of the unresolved problems of the political processes in modern Georgia.
According to Armaz Akhvlediani,Director of the TSPS, the issue of “electoral culture” has become even more relevant and topical, due to the existing difficult political situation in Georgia, which has become more tense since the emergence of a new political force and due to the forthcoming 2012 Parliamentary elections and the 2013 Presidential elections.
Speeches made, and discussions held, at the seminar proved that the issue of elections does not only mean proper registration of voters, which still remains an unresolved problem in Georgia, or the proper organisation of precincts. The electoral process is directly linked to the level of sustainability of democracy, and therefore, to the freedom of speech, the mass media and the establishment of the rule of law.
