Statement on Tunisia by ASPS President Catherine Lalumière 24/03/2015 The terrorist shootings at the Bardo Museum in Tunis were despicable and barbaric attacks on the democratic institutions and the cultural values of a country which offers real hope for the development of a society based on human rights and justice, former French Minister, Catherine Lalumière, said today.

The Association of Schools of Political Studies of the Council of Europe (ASPS), which I am honoured to chair, categorically condemns this cowardly terrorist attack. Our thoughts go out to the people of Tunisia and to the families and friends of the victims.

This tragedy underscores the vital role the Tunisian School of Political Studies must play in training the country’s future leaders so that all Tunisians, and particularly young people, can benefit from democratic reforms and the rule of law, she added.

All the attacks on democracy which we are witnessing today, whether of a political or a terrorist nature, demonstrate the importance and the need for the work carried out by the 21 Schools of Political Studies grouped in our Association, she said.
