Within the framework of the South Programme II – a joint initiative of the European Union and the Council of Europe for the promotion and strengthening of democracy and human rights in the Mediterranean region, a regional seminar was organised in Hammamet under the title “Migration in the Euro-Med Region.”

From 23 to 24 October 2017, the seminar was opened by Ahmed Driss (Director of the Tunisian School of Politics) and Matjaz Gruden (Director for Policy Planning, Council of Europe). Speakers were invited from Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia.

Five panels discussed the following topics:

Migration and geopolitical questions
National and Mediterranean migration strategies
Migration and security challenges
Migration and sustainable development
Rights and freedoms of migrants
